If you think that you can burn just any old wood in your fireplace or stove, you’d be wrong and perhaps dangerously so with toxic fumes. While both hardwoods and softwoods will burn, there’s a great deal of difference in the quality of the results. Hardwoods are the woods of choice when burning indoors. These woods, such as maple, oak, and walnut, produce a lot of heat, also burn longer and are cleaner than their counterpart. Softwoods, on the other hand are cheaper and can produce a lot of smoke and creosote.

When we burn hardwood, it only releases the same amount of CO2 and other gases as were absorbed by the tree during its growth making it carbon neutral or carbon negative (absorbing more carbon than it releases). A negligible amount of fossil fuels are burned in the harvesting of the firewood.

Lima is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,735 at the 2010 census,[3] down from 3,225 at the 2000 census. It is pronounced “LYE-ma” (/ˈɫaɪ-mÉ™/).

The Middletown Friends Meetinghouse was built in 1702 and is one of the oldest Friends meetinghouses in what was originally Chester County.[4][5] Lima played an important role in the anti-slavery movement. Not only did residents advocate for manumission, noted local families such as the Van Leer’s and Fox’s bought and sold lots to free black tradesmen or only to people who were supportive of the free black community. The location was known as The Village of Lima and is now known as Van Leer Avenue. The local community grew with support from local neighbors.[6][7]
